5 Great Smash Bros. Ultimate Mods

 It's been a while, hasn't it?  Well, what better way to jump back in than talking about mods again?  I figured we'd start off easy with this by talking about 5 Smash mods since I've been messing with that a lot lately (results vary haha).  I'll add a preface to these sorts of posts just mentioning that there's a wide variety of these to be seen and I of course can't cover these in one post, but perhaps I'll make a series out of it haha.  With that said, let's jump right in with 5 neat mods to start with ( note some of these may be 18+ so use sense and discretion with what you download.)

5. Mitsuru Kirijo-Lucina

When it comes to smash mods, the most abundant is going to be character skin mods.  Lucina is a character filed under "single slot" which means that really only on mod can be active on her at a time, unlike others such as Mario or Byleth, so if you get any others for her you'll need to rotate them out periodically.  This particular mod turns Lucina into Mitsuru from Persona 3, and I don't just mean in looks!  Along with the character skin, the character select screen shows an image of Mitsuru when changing the costume to the right slot and the modder even went so far as to change Lucina's voice to the Atlus character's as well.  The model looks great and it plays extremely well, so it's definitely worth checking out if you're looking to add some new blood to the game now that it's over.



4. Silvagunner Stage Pack

With a game as big as this, of course there was going to be stage mods too.  This changes several things that one may not initially think of too.  The initial edit is that Pac-Man's Park is now full f references to the Silvagunner youtube channel, but it also turns the Omega and Battlefield forms of the stage into the Final Destination seen in the art for the channel's King for a Day tournament, and changes all the music therein to remixes found on said channel as well.  As far as stage mods go, this is one of the top ones out there and really provides a newer experience in my opinion.



3. MGBrad's Custom Music Pack 868 Total Added Songs

This one's an audio mod that adds a BUNCH of new music into the game.  There are a few of these out here, and I'll get to those another time but this one was extensive enough I wanted to start with it.  Not only do a bunch of existing franchises get new songs added with this, but on top of that, new music categories are added for songs from Genshin Impact. Killer Instinct, Devil May Cry, Cuphead, Deltarune/Undertale, BlazBlue and a few more.  Many get their separate categories so this is definitely game music lover's kind of mod.  Cannot recommend this one enough if you have the means to get it in there.



2. Gordon Freeman-Link

Valve enters the arena of Nintendo's best at last with this mod.  Donning his HEV Suit and crowbar, Gordon fits right over Link and even comes with the HEV Suit speaking when attacking or damaged.  Link may be a bit more acrobatic than everyone's favorite theoretical physicist, but the mod still looks and plays great, really showing the power of well done mods and the possibilities still to be had in these games.



1. Naked Palutena

I did say some of these would end up 18+ and there you have one.  This mod needs very little explanation since, well, it's exactly what the title says.  It's the same old Palutena, but now she has a nude model.  The model itelf is well done, and it definitely at least looks like it's Palutena's body, which is the most you can ask of these kinds of mods.  It's worth the download if you're up for a more risque experience in you smash game.  I recommend it at least for that!

The Art of Modded Speedrunning

       Most speedrunning sites will tell you that modding is against the rules and disqualifies any official run you do.  One only has to take a look at Speedrun.com to discover that.  To be sure, there are mods out there that absolutely should be avoided for speedrunning- anything that changes the speed of the game or messes with the gameplay shouldn't really be in use because you'd be giving yourself an unfair advantage over other speedrunners who are getting times on a level playing ground.  This could include things like Smash Ultimate gameplay mods or difficulty adjusters/damage reduction for Dark Souls.  These do change things up and allow different experiences, but that experience also changes the core of the game to a degree and therefore would be and is something that disqualifies official speedruns (These rules even apply to things like Games Done Quick and other big events), though it makes very little sense to file cosmetic mods under ...

Dawn of War IV Coming Next Year!

  Gamescom's Opening Night Live had a whole bunch of announcements to make, but there was definitely an unexpected few among them.  One of those few was the surprise announcement that. hot off the heels of Relic Entertainment releasing a remastered version of the original Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War  and all of it's expansions, We are in fact getting a new entry in the series after 9 years.  Almost a decade after the lackluster reception of Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War III  seemed like it may have prematurely ended the series, Iron Harvest  developer KING Art Games has announced they are the developers of Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV .   KING Art Games has said that while they want to take good elements from both of the first two games, the original game is their "Guiding Star" in terms of how they want to approach this title.  Here's what we know about it so far: 4 unique factions at launch- Space Marines, Orks, Necrons, and the compl...
